Is Temu Available in India? (2026) — The Honest Answer
Temu does not operate in India. There is no Indian Temu app, no Indian Temu website, and no shipping to Indian addresses. If you have seen a listing, an app or a link claiming otherwise, it is not Temu — and that distinction matters, because that gap is exactly where scams live.

Why Temu isn't in India
Two separate obstacles, and either one alone would be enough.
The ownership question. Temu belongs to PDD Holdings, the group behind Pinduoduo, which is Chinese-founded. Under India's foreign investment rules, investment from entities in countries sharing a land border with India requires prior government approval rather than passing automatically. That rule — introduced in 2020 and still in force — makes a straightforward launch impossible without a specific clearance.
The business-model question, which is the bigger one. Indian FDI policy permits foreign-owned e-commerce companies to run a marketplace — a neutral platform connecting independent sellers to buyers — but not an inventory-based model where the platform owns and sells the goods itself.
Temu's entire proposition is the second kind. Its prices come from controlling the chain end to end: consigned inventory, direct-from-factory shipping, aggressive control of pricing and logistics. Stripped down to a neutral marketplace where it can't own stock or set prices, Temu would not be Temu — it would just be another marketplace competing with companies that already have a decade's head start in India.
That is the real reason this hasn't happened, and why it is unlikely to happen quickly.
What Shein did instead — and why it worked
Shein faced the same problem and solved it, which makes it the useful comparison.
Shein was banned in India in 2020 along with a batch of Chinese apps. It returned in 2025 through a licensing arrangement with Reliance Retail. The structure is the point: Reliance runs the India operation, the data stays in India on Reliance-controlled infrastructure, the supply chain is built around Indian manufacturers, and Shein licenses the brand and technology rather than owning the business.
That is a template Temu could theoretically follow — find an Indian partner, license the brand, cede operational control. It has not, and doing so would give up most of what makes its pricing work.
The apps and sites claiming to be Temu
Because demand exists and the real thing doesn't, the gap gets filled by impostors. Treat anything presenting itself as Temu India as suspect until proven otherwise. The recurring patterns:
- Lookalike apps outside the official stores, asking to be sideloaded. Never do this. Sideloaded shopping apps are among the most common vectors for credential and payment theft in India.
- Domains that mimic the name with an added word or a different extension, running a convincing storefront that takes payment and ships nothing.
- Social media ads promising Temu-style prices, leading to a checkout that collects card details.
- "Reseller" accounts claiming to import Temu orders on your behalf. Even where genuine, you take on customs risk, no returns path, and no recourse.
The tell is always the same: an unfamiliar seller asking for payment before you can verify anything. If a deal only exists via a link someone sent you, it isn't a deal.
What actually fills the same need
The demand Temu serves — very cheap, high-variety, non-branded goods — is well served in India already.
