A medium is not a medium. There is no enforced clothing-size standard in India, so every label sizes to its own chart — and on multi-brand sites you are shopping dozens of those charts at once, under a single dropdown that implies they agree. They don't. This is the most reliable way a good discount turns into no saving at all.

The house-of-brands problem

Multi-brand retailers aggregate many labels under one storefront. NNNOW, for example, carries Arvind's portfolio — US Polo, Flying Machine, GAP, Calvin Klein India — and each of those sizes to its own chart, not to a single NNNOW standard. The site shows you "M" because that's what the label calls it, not because two M items measure the same.

The same applies across Myntra, AJIO and every other aggregator. The size dropdown is a label, not a measurement.

Practical consequence: your size on one brand tells you nothing reliable about your size on the next, even within the same order.

What a return actually costs

Most Indian fashion retailers offer free returns, which makes returns feel free. They aren't:

• Your money is held. Refunds typically take 5–10 working days after pickup, and pickup itself takes 2–4 days. On a ₹3,000 order that's two weeks of your money sitting with someone else.
• The offer usually doesn't survive. A first-order code, a tiered cart-value discount, or a bank offer applied to the original order is frequently not reissued on the replacement. You return the item, reorder at full price, and the discount is gone.
• Tiered discounts collapse. If a code required a ₹2,999 cart and you return one item, the remaining cart may drop below the threshold — and some retailers claw the discount back from the refund.

How to order so the saving survives

• Check the brand's size chart, not the site's — and check it per item, not per order. Measurements in centimetres beat S/M/L every time.
• Measure a garment you already own that fits the way you want, and compare chest, waist and length against the chart. This is far more reliable than measuring your body.
• Read reviews for fit direction. "Runs small, size up" in a dozen reviews is better data than any chart.
• Don't order two sizes on a coupon-dependent cart. The tactic works fine at full price. On a tiered or first-order discount it frequently destroys the discount when you return one.
• Order the fit-risky item separately from the rest of the basket, so a return can't drag the main order below a discount threshold.

Where sizing risk is highest
