Buying Contact Lenses Online in India (2026) — The Recurring-Cost Maths

That single difference is why the buying logic is completely unlike frames — and why the number that matters isn't the pack price, it's your annual spend. Daily vs monthly is the entire decision

Everything else is noise next to this. Run it as annual cost, not pack cost:

• Monthlies — one pair lasts a month with nightly cleaning. You also buy solution and cases continuously, which people routinely forget to count. Lowest cash cost per year by a wide margin for full-time wearers.
• Dailies — a fresh pair every day, no solution, no case, no cleaning routine. Materially more expensive annually for daily wear, and materially cheaper if you wear lenses twice a week, because monthlies expire 30 days after opening whether you wear them or not.

That last point is the one that catches occasional wearers. An opened monthly lens is on a 30-day clock regardless of use. If you wear lenses only at weekends, you are throwing away most of every pair — and dailies become the cheaper option despite the higher sticker price.

So: full-time wearer, buy monthlies in bulk. Occasional wearer, buy dailies. Getting this backwards costs more than every coupon on the site combined.

Bulk is where the discount actually lives

Lens pricing rewards volume steeply. A 6-month or annual supply is priced far below twelve individual monthly boxes, and unopened lenses have long shelf lives — typically several years — so stockpiling carries almost no risk.

This is one of the few categories where buying a year ahead on a sale is straightforwardly correct. The exceptions: don't bulk-buy a lens brand you haven't worn before, and don't bulk-buy if your prescription is still changing.

The prescription detail people get wrong

Your glasses prescription is not your contact lens prescription. They're different measurements. Lenses sit on the eye, glasses sit ~12mm in front of it, so the power differs — and a contact prescription additionally specifies base curve (BC) and diameter (DIA), which glasses prescriptions simply don't contain.

Ordering lenses using your spectacle numbers gives you the wrong fit, and a badly fitting lens is an eye-health issue, not a comfort preference. If you have astigmatism you need toric lenses, which is another parameter again.

Get a proper contact lens fitting once. After that, reordering online against those exact numbers is safe and much cheaper than buying in-store.

The costs people leave out

• Solution and cases — a real recurring cost for monthly wearers. Count it in the annual maths.
• A backup pair of glasses. Non-negotiable. Eye infections and irritation happen, and you cannot wear lenses through them.
• Never top up or reuse solution. Fresh solution every time, replace the case regularly. This is the corner most likely to be cut and the one with an actual medical downside.
• Don't stretch the wear window. A monthly lens worn for six weeks is not a saving.
